Review: Van Gogh Alive Digital Nights

Last night I went to Van Gogh Alive - Digital Nights. I highly recommend. The installation is like a post covid art gallery staged outside with large animated projections of Van Gogh paintings on all walls 360 degrees around you.30 minute show nightly. It has sold out in wellington. Ends on 30th Oct. I heard a rumour that they sell a few tickets each night for those trying their luck at 9:00 pm (source: Wellington subreddit)The space is surrounded by shipping containers and a dozen projectors display extended images on their rippled steel sides - painted white and stacked three high.Van Gogh was self-taught. He was affected by the lives of peasants.Van Gogh produced 2000 paintings over ten years. One of Van Gogh’s paintings was sold during his lifetime for US$1900. The only known painting sold while Van Gogh was alive.Van Gogh rebelled against many rules of technique from realism.Van Gogh is the world's most famous artist and the most prolific. One of his pieces sold for over eighty million.Van Gogh, excited about a visit from his artist friend Gaugin, painted many sunflower paintings to decorate his home. Gaugin and Van Gogh planned an artist colony. Van Gogh wanted to share his studio with another artist such as Gaugin. The friendship ended when Van Gogh, according to Gaugin, threatened Gaugin with a razor. Gaugin left immediately and upon returning the next day discovered police and a pool of blood from Van Gogh self mutilating his ear which he had sent to a prostitute named Rachel in a nearby town. Van Gogh did not perceive the depth of his mental illness blaming a fever for the episode.Located West of Te Papa Museum.Cost: $20 for presales. Door sales may be higherhttps://https://ift.tt/2HyUCDR via /r/Wellington https://ift.tt/3jpiCWN
