My father sent me with a letter to an 'old friend' in the woods. My life will never be the same again.

It was just after tea. I was staying with my dad. He asked if I would deliver a letter to an old friend who lived in a cabin in the nearby woods. He'd never mentioned this person before, so I was hesitant - but the sun was only beginning to set and it didn't seem like a big deal. Besides - I wanted to remain in my dad's good books. I asked what the letter was for, exactly. He told me it was his condolences for the death of this person's wife. He wanted to do it formally, to show he cared. I didn't ask any further questions, though I had plenty more. I threw a hoodie on and walked out into the unforgiving, frosty night, letter in hand. It was freezing and it seemed like the action had been frozen too. No fighting, no cars. The sun continued its descent, until cold came and sent a chill down my spine. The lampposts kicked in to provide that illumination that the darkness had stolen. It wasn't long to the woods now, then it would be back home for Friday Night Film Night, a thought to help combat the shivers within. I could see the trees, swaying in the light breeze. I passed through some trees, rocking in the wind. I saw the cabin, through some trees, that were being thrown around by a gale. I battled with balance to keep myself steady. I struggled, but made it to the cabin. The sky was now the colour of charcoal, yet no stars shone. I looked behind - but to my surprise, the trees had been replaced by mere stumps. My heart rate fluctuated. All in my head, I muttered. I knocked. My gaze continued to drift in disbelief. My vision had defied. "Yes?" My gaze returned to an innocent old man. "My father - you might know him from long ago - he wanted me to give you a letter." I handed him the letter. He took it carefully, like he knew something I didn't. He looked behind at the vicious weather. "You better come in." he said, with a slightly aggressive tone. "Sure." I said and smiled. I didn't want to be rude. "Have a seat." he said. I did so. I stared at the strange ornaments that decorated the lounge. Then, the man- or what I thought- No, what happened then - I cannot explain. I walked into the room, while I stared. He- or should I say I, sat in a chair opposite, letter in hand."Many thanks", he- (I?) grinned menacingly and opened the envelope. It was a soul contract, with my name on it. My own father had set me up to give my own soul to- something. It wasn't the devil. This isn't your cliché scenario. He pointed to the window. The trees reappeared, then disappeared again - and again, seemingly flicking through parallel realities. "You must be confused. I'm Xuine." He slimmed and his neck extended suddenly, with a terrifying cracking sound. I was paralyzed with fear. He tore a mirror off the wall. "Look into it." His voice was becoming more hoarse, but I could almost hear chorus. I looked into the mirror. It was fractured, but the reflections all showed something different. It wanted to go blind. His face was melting. I saw a thousand different versions of him and the room I was standing in. My eyes burned. The room was on fire. Dark purple. His many eyes dazzled with devilish delight. "Your soul is appreciated." they croaked. "So is a new member for the Syndicate. Welcome." I tried to scream, but thick, dark smoke filled my lungs. My dad was a distant memory. A twisted, dark memory. He had betrayed me - and now - I wanted to kill. via /r/nosleep https://ift.tt/3msFGGm
