TL;DR I collect dead bugs and animals and process them for keeping as decoration and my long term partner struggles with finding a way to participate in my hobbies like I do with his. Help me find another spooky/macabre hobby?Long version: A hobby of mine for many years, though not practiced every day or even month, has been collecting dead things. Dead bugs, bones, animals. Animals are obviously cleaned and the parts, instead of the whole animal, made for keeping. My long term partner has become perturbed by this now that we are thinking about living together. It’s not a deal breaker but I can tell he feels some type of way about it. He says it’s not the artifacts themselves, it’s that I can take a body apart and that’s fun for me.He’s the first very stereotypically masculine man I’ve dated and his hobby is buying, fixing and racing cars but he has hunted before and has family members who hunt. We both came from rural midwestern, US homes. It’s safe to say I thought dead animals have always been a part of life, I’m just not the killing them. He says hunting is different because you can eat it.He hasn’t been harsh and it doesn’t seem it’s taking a toll on our relationship. He said he did not want me putting the animals in the freezer or taking them apart in the house. I accommodated this by having a separate freezer now and a space he doesn’t use at all for my evil deeds. Our mutual concern is that I’m very much involved in his hobbies, He asks for my help with cars all the time and I’m more than glad to share his hobby. I don’t want him to feel obligated to participate in something he’s uncomfortable with and he wants to be able to share our hobbies and help eachother out.I enjoy things like watching horror movies, true crime documentaries, collecting bugs and animal bones/hides, walks through the woods at night, reading true crime/horror....you get the idea. Death has always been a big and inescapable part of my life and I find it fascinating, the more detailed or bizarre the better. I think bodies are crazy interesting and seeing the inside of a body is crazy, a whole life was lived with those organs working every day.I don’t know how to turn these things into a new hobby lol via /r/Hobbies https://ift.tt/3kqXLDi
