The Realities of Home Building

I have always wanted to own land - preferably on the water - and go through the process from start to finish: finding the land, designing the property, building, decorating, etc. I want to make sure I don’t have an overly romantic version of home building, so am looking for honest information on the realities of finding/ buying/ clearing/ building on land. I’d love your experiences, any references that may be helpful, YouTube or Instagram creators, anything at all. I’ve been through a full gut reno before, which included sewage coming up into my kitchen, so I’m not a total newbie, but I was really young and my parents were there to really run the show. I don’t know anyone personally who haa done this, so would love as much info as possible. Building location would likely be NB or NS, possibly ON; I know things will change place to place.
