2020 Halloween. Lasting memories.

Trying to keep a little bit of normality in these strange times is practically impossible, and taking away the one thing that children look forward to all year is sad, they already have so much change to deal with. The costumes and candy, the anticipation of going to a decorated scary house and knocking on the door with hopes of getting the very best candy, and having them praise you for all the effort you put into your costume. Well, this year was different. There were no trick or treaters, hardly a carved pumpkin lining the steps of our neighbors. So we decided this year that we would still keep the tradition going… In our home.We started the day with a spooky breakfast (meaning skull and bones shaped french toast and eggs.) Simple right??Then we carved pumkins, including  adults. (Even though some of them didn't want to, it was for the kids.)After that we ate lunch and piled in the car to look at some decorated houses. It was so much fun, and the kids saw that very few children were out trick or treating so then we went home.I told the kids that they had to get ready because it was almost time. They were so excited to not have to wear shoes. They were adorable because they dressed themselves and used their imagination.  All of the adults in the house put a pumpkin by a door and sat behind the door with a bowl of candy.Their aunt sat on a chair in the bathroom, their uncle sat on the stairs behind the door to his room. I sat in my room and their grandpa sat in the spare bedroom. We told them that they could come to our doors as many times as they liked until the candy was gone. What the kids didn't know was that we had a few tricks up our sleeves, we put things on our heads and some of us had silly masks and acted like we were seeing them for the first time. They got praise for their costumes and we even acted scared when they said boo. The kids had a blast, they were laughing and laughing, and memories were made. After all of that, the kids and I sat down and watched some funny Halloween movies with a big bowl of popcorn. At the end of the night I heard the them talking to each other saying how much fun they had with the family. We get so caught up in the moment that we all forget what is right here in front of us.It doesn't take a lot of money, it takes moments.Endearing moments that will last a lifetime. via /r/inspiration https://ift.tt/34Oxvho
