The Piano Pact (Drac's Ascension Part 13)

Part 1|Previous|NextTyrannus gazed at the building until Drac had finally exited, walking with a girl. A much younger girl. Furrowing his brow, Tyrannus squinted. Nothing about her looks very demon-like, he thought. They stood outside for a moment, chatting and smiling but only for a few minutes. Then the two of them strolled down the block, and Tyrannus shifted his car into gear and tailed them from a comfortable distance. He pulled up to a thirty-story building with lights on from top to bottom. The top had a bright sign with pointy, thick font: El Lujo.Drac and the young girl stepped inside the lobby, and Tyrannus pulled up to the other side of the street and parked."We're getting close, Tyranny," Fenny whispered from the passenger seat. "Not yet, but you'll know when the moment's right to strike."Tyrannus stared over to his right and gulped."You got nothing to be nervous about, kiddo. You're a cold-blooded killer. This mission is a couple notches below that. Nothing to worry about!"Tyrannus nodded hypnotically and smiled. Fenny's grin was contagious."Now, I know I'm good looking, but keep your eyes on that goddamn hotel," Fenny shoved Tyrannus' face away, where he observed the tall five-star palace.***Drac strolled through the spotless lobby with Hannah, a faint hint of chlorine from the pool lingered. An endless fountain on the wall splashed alongside jazzy elevator music. Without checking in at the front desk, Drac and Hannah went forward to the elevator and took it up to the top. Drac had to scan a magnetic card to press the '30' button, after which he handed it over to Hannah."Thank you," she said."What time are your friends coming?" Drac said."As soon as you cut me loose," Hannah smirked."I won't keep you long, I promise. Just want to show you the room, introduce you to the staff that will be taking care of you for the evening.""Sounds good -wow, look at this view," Hannah gazed out the huge glass windows, she was immersed in the skyline of Indianapolis. The elevator dinged, and the steel doors parted down the center, revealing a wide hallway with a window at the end. There was only a door on the right and a door on the left in the center of the hall. Arriving to the left side, Drac motioned, "Go ahead, use your card."Hannah scanned it at the knob, and the lock clicked. She pushed it open and stepped inside a wide-open living room. Two bellhops dressed in red outfits stood by a table with bottles of champagne stuck in bowls full of ice."This is Robby and Emily, they will take great care of you this evening. Tell them to stick around, tell them to scram, whatever. It's all up to you," Drac shrugged."Nice to meet you, thanks," Hannah awkwardly smiled. "If you two want to have the night off, you can, we don't need much.""Nonsense," Robby said. "Drac has taken good care of us to assist you and your guests.""Alright," Hannah shrugged. "Sounds good to me then.""Should you need anything else, don't feel afraid to call me. That goes for you as well, Robby and Emily. I'm going to head out now unless you need anything else?" Drac said."No, this is perfect, my friends are already on their way, so you really should beat it," Hannah winked and giggled."Have a fun night, just don't burn the place down," Drac waved goodbye and went back down to the lobby. ***Tyrannus brooded, eyes-widened as his pupils followed Drac leaving the building. He put his hand on the handle."Ah ah ah, slow down there, eager mcbeaver," Fenny gripped his face. "You don't even have a plan. You think you're just going to walk in there and you'll find her? Think, you goddamn maniac, think for a moment. Where would Drac put up a guest?" With a realization, Tyrannus nodded."How are you going to get up there?" Fenny pressed.Tyrannus pulled his hand back from the handle and simulated some ideas in his head. Staring over at the hotel, he saw a few younger people walk in, around the same age as Drac's girl. He wondered what could be going on, but he couldn't develop a thought that made total sense. Looking back at his passenger seat, Fenny was nowhere to be found. With a deep breath, he shoved open the door and stormed the hotel.***Hannah slurped down half of a mimosa. "Oh my God, this champagne is better than any shit I've ever drank up at school.""Tell me about it," Melanie snickered.Their friend Finn was staring out at downtown Indianapolis from the window with a mimosa in his hand. "I can't believe you know someone who hooked this up for you. This place is amazing, I mean, just look at this," Finn spun around and crossed through the space, gazing up at the second floor of the penthouse, unaware of Melanie stealing glances."I don't know really anyone with any cool connections of any kind, but I have my friend here," Hannah said."I'll say, he must be a pretty important guy," Finn observed the modern design, the curves made by an architect having fun, with an interior decorator who was having a field day."Can we get more booze?" Hannah's friend Kayla said after finishing her drink."What are you talking about? We have a bunch of stuff here," Hannah said."I kinda want something that's not champagne.""Fine, what do you want then?""I've been drinking craft beer lately. I bet they can get their hands on some potent stuff if we asked."Hannah rolled her eyes. "I'll just ask for, 'their finest beer stock,' does that work?""I like IPA's," Kayla added."Your finest IPA, sir," Hannah mocked with a nasally high pitch voice. She walked over to the phone on the wall and pressed the red room service button that Robby and Emily showed her earlier."Hello?" Robby answered."Hey, uh, could we get some fancy IPA's?" Hannah said."Any brand in particular?" he said."I don't know, just something fancy.""You got it, I'll be right up."Hannah hung up the phone. "They'll be here soon, happy, Kayla?""Thank youuu!" Kayla replied.***Escaping the bitter cold through a revolving door, Tyrannus was in the warm lobby of the hotel. "Her name is Hannah," Fenny's voice echoed through his head.Tyrannus stepped up to the front desk and took a deep breath."Hi, can I help you?" the guy behind the counter asked."Yes, I have a message to deliver to... Hannah. This is at Drac's request," Tyrannus said."Okay, I can go deliver that to her," he pulled out a notepad and pen."No, I mean, I must go up to her room and deliver a message.""You can call if you'd like? This is a special party, sir, and these are the instructions.""Please, I'm begging you," Tyrannus growled and leaned his head in. "This is an emergency, I need to see her immediately."The guy paused and studied Tynnus' face. "I'll have someone escort you up there," he yanked the phone up to his ear and pressed a button. "Yeah, hi, you're taking care of the Drac suite? Do you mind taking this guy up there with you? He says he has a message for Hannah. Okay, great, thanks," the clerk hung up the phone. "Someone will take you up there shortly."***The doorbell rang out through the suite."That must be your IPA's," Hannah mocked Kayla and walked away from her friends to answer the door."Oh, hello?" Hannah eyed the tall man standing next to Robby (who had his hands on a beer cart)."Hi Hannah, this man said he had a message for you. He knows Drac," Robby said.Hannah stepped forward as the door closed behind her. "What's this all about?" The tall, brawny man with large, wide eyes glanced back and forth between Hannah and Robby. "The name's Tyrannus," he shoved Robby so hard he crashed his head on the other side of the wall.Hannah shrieked, and Tyrannus whipped out a white cloth and jammed it against Hannah's face until she went limp. Tyrannus sped down the hall carrying Hannah in his arms. The door to the suite flew open, but Hannah's friends didn't see anything except for Robby, sprawled out on the floor murmuring to himself.***Staring at the wall of screens, Drac honed his eyes on the monitor the guard pointed at. Drac witnessed everything that happened in the hallway from the security footage earlier in the night. "Did you need to see it again?" the guard asked."No, once was more than enough," Drac said."We tried chasing him down, but we couldn't get to him in time. He escaped in a Cadillac Escalade. We contacted the police as well. I'm really sorry, Drac."Drac sighed, "I'm gonna be gone for a few days.""Where are you going? What if we find new information and need to contact you?""You can call me. But I'm going to be the one to find him."Drac stormed out of the room and called up Nika and Rex, telling both of them he was going to Chicago. "Things didn't work out with your girlfriend?" Nika replied."Damn, you love that city, huh?" Rex responded. But both of them ended their call with, "Let me know if there's anything I can do."Drac drove to Chicago and then headed north. He called Abby on his way."Hey, what's going on?" she asked."Has Tyrannus called Marcia for any reason? Or damn, is she even still staying with you?" Drac asked."Marcia is still with me, yes. She's been in a state of shock. I don't think Tyrannus has tried to reach her.""Well, I think he's on the move.""What happened?""He captured a friend of mine. She's human. And I think he might go to his place in Wisconsin.""Are you serious?""Yes. I'm going to check by his house in case he's in Chicago," Drac said. "Could you confirm with Marcia he still lives in the same place in Evanston?""Yes, he does.""I didn't hear you confirm with her.""Drac, relax, I talked to her the other day about it. He still lives there.""Alright. I'll talk to you later. In the meantime, can you go and check by his property tomorrow to see if he's there, that is, if you don't hear back from me?""It's a little far from Milwaukee, and I don't know what to do about Marcia.""Take her with you. Besides, if he's there, Marcia just might want to face off against him. I'll pay you the gas money if it's about that."Abby laughed for a brief moment but grew serious again. "Fine. Call me as soon as you have any updated information.""Will do," Drac ended the call and continued to drive with undivided focus, passing cars on the left and riding in the fast lane going 15 over.He pulled into a neighborhood with massive homes, covered with trees and vast yards with light fixtures along their stretched driveways. Drac had to check his phone for directions. It had been a long time since he'd been there. Both times he was working on a small project with Fenny. Once he picked something up, and another time he drove Fenny there for a meeting regarding a blood exchange. Drac stayed out of the conversation for the most part but made a critical mistake when he put his drink on a sandalwood coffee table."What the fuck do you think you're doing?" Tyrannus had yelled. "You're lucky that's not my record player!"Drac was fifteen years younger and didn't know yet how to handle himself in certain situations. He just needed to set his drink down for a brief moment to grab his phone. "Relax, maybe you should put some fucking coasters on your precious coffee table.""Drac, shut the fuck up and apologize!" Fenny scolded. "C'mon, hurry it up, no time to waste. I just want to stick to business and only business. Apologize, dammit!""Sorry," Drac said, but it wasn't sincere.Drac pulled the wheel back to the right to steady his cruise through the neighborhood of gigantic homes. "Your destination is on the left," his phone voiced. The porch light was on, but all the other lights to the house were off.A black Rolls-Royce Ghost sat in the driveway.Thank you for reading, I love reading your comments, they make the experience way more enjoyable.
