I faced my childhood fear and bought a Betta fish!

When I was a little girl, I was terrified of betta fish. I would be scared, but always curious to head over to the little cups. I wanted to vomit at the sight of them. I had chills every time I thought about dead fish and frequently even when I saw one swimming happily alive. I was still obsessed with the aquarium nonetheless. In freshman year of high school, I had my boyfriend buy a Betta from a local family pet store so I could look at it when I came over swimming around alive. I decided to go even further into a deep dive of conquering this fear that was caused by inhumane habits. Impulsively wanting to be a good person that day, I went to my Petco down the street and picked up a paradise Betta male with half a missing tail (either a fight or bitten off, no sign of rot). I bought the only available tank that wasn’t 10 gallons (a 1.8 gallon), gallons of filtered water, minimal decor, necessary environment enhancers, and took the little guy home to get him out of his dirty cage. It’s been two days and it’s the best fear I’ve ever faced. He will be upgraded into a 5 gallon as soon as he’s adjusted to finally being part of a family. Would moving him in one week be too soon? I would not want to shock him. Right now he has water 50% changes every 4 days with no filter and a daily mixed diet. His fins are curled and besides his lively behaviour, I'm still worried for this guy. via /r/bettafish https://ift.tt/35lBlgX
