GMG Community Project. "The Stenn Giants".

Hey Everyone! Atlas again! It's been a while! This post will be rather long so please do read carefully but I will try to highlight some key points for everyone to make it easier. If you have played Genesis in the past few months or have been around for a while you may know or have seen these lovely Images:https://preview.redd.it/3k9m5guc2xv51.jpg?width=1366&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d370c3709e92177dd857ac7d583ee43a541eaea7https://preview.redd.it/il75s60f2xv51.jpg?width=1366&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e1c29e01f1dd0cd68bd441eb664a0f0a21cb6c10Now for those curious, I originally thought these were a precursor to the sheks we have in-game now. Chris kindly let me know that they were actually a separate race that was not added to the game. "The Stenn Giants". Given the naming, I've decided to simply call them "The Stenn".As you might guess by the name they were the original race set to be placed in the Stenn desert.Given the warlike nature of the shek, the following is what i have settled on for the going lore.Stenn Lore: (In Progress)The Stenn have always been small in numbers. Size, weight, and speed play a lot in how they move, fight, and hunt. Overall they are massive lumbering creatures and weigh quite a lot. (estimated around about a ton, the general idea is they used to hunt leviathan adults for food, standing roughly up to an elder leviathans knee). Over time tribes of the Stenn have slowly died out, being pushed out of their homelands in the Kenshi continent until only two smaller tribes remain (the total estimate will be about 100 members in-game who will NOT respawn if they die). Their society is a tribal sort that follows a typical chief, shaman and warrior caste system with very few extra professions excluding the generic "home group" and the occasional blacksmith. Due to their large size and strength they tend to kill any weaker members who cannot fend for themselves by mid-childhood as they are thought to be "cursed"(roughly a given 8-10 yrs of age). This also lends to their few numbers. While they are actually rather smart and crafty they do not hold the overall dexterity to craft unique and intimate craftsmanship pieces due to their size, there are very few exceptions to this though. The nature of tribalistic tendencies also leaves very small room for cultivation, craftsmanship and architecture. This leaves there overall culture at a "high-end" cavemen like culture. Their physiology and biology while giving them massive lungs and extra throats also inhibit's them from forming complex sentence structures making it very hard for them to vocalize their thoughts very well, this also lends to their tribalistic nature as diplomacy cannot really be achieved without the higher process of thought one would need to have to debate. They use scrap metal and large stones for their housing and while some may hold unique carvings in their buildings for decoration most of it tends to fall flat of what one would call ornate. The armor they will wear is simply scavenged pieces repurposed or rough leather hides with hastily thrown together metal plating.Their weapons are also repurposed or shoddily crafted pieces (with some exceptions) and will be focused around large clubs, maces, and heavy sword types. They will herd and have cage beasts as cattle. The project originally started out as a side project for Genesis but given the overall nature i'd like to have the communities input on it and release it as a full standalone expansion for everyone to enjoy and if possible i'd like to bring the brightest and best together to release something that the Kenshi community can be proud of as a whole. As of right now, the model is being worked on by a concept artist Known as Operat. His portfolio is rather extensive and I'm not entirely sure how he found out about genesis but I'm glad he reached out as the work he has done and is doing is just downright amazing. He is currently or was working in the past with the beyond Skyrim teams designing models for them and has done many models for many Bethesda mods in the past.A bit of Operats past work. Now to the models and the progress. The Stenn initial Head sculpt based on the picture below.Stenn Giant Head close up.Operat and I had a lot of discussions involving the stenns standing lore at this point and as seen above have a general outline of what we would like them to appear as and how we would like them to be perceived. Here you can see the initial Stenn sculpt. My dude is a little chonker in the legs and a little to weak in the shoulders. With a little more definition in the musculature around the knees and ankles you can see how powerful the giants are meant to be naturally. The next stage of this will involve more definition and tweaks as we move on to detailing in the future but overall im happy with the outcome so far.If you would like to contribute ideas. art, modeling, animations etc you may contact me below or on discord @ atlas#8060. I plan on checking this post for a while to further discussions and hear feedback from you guys on what you would like to see and how you would like this expansion to evolve. What we are looking for right now is some concepts to go along with the ideas outlined above and to have you guys contribute ideas that artists may get inspired from to contribute to the project. The overall feel we are going for is an "orcish" type armor/weapon setup (hides, bones, and metal but no tech). via /r/Kenshi https://ift.tt/3ecJUPh
